[SG EATS] DON HO SOCIAL KITCHEN & BAR AT KEONG SAIK ROAD

DON HO- Social Kitchen & Bar is the latest F&B addition along Keong Saik Road. If you are a first timer just like me, I bet you will be lost searching for the entrance of the restaurant. The entrance is actually at the back alley of The Working Capitol building. Don Ho is under the same team behind the poke-bowl shop, Loloku. And tell you a secret! There is a secret passage inside the restaurant that link to Loloku.

The interior of the restaurant is Hawaiian inspired with modern twist décor which pretty much instagram-worthy. As you step into the restaurant, there is a bar counter where the cocktails and drinks are prepared. Moving on is the open concept kitchen with communal dining table settings and of course private seating as well.

I visited the place after work with foodies last Friday before I flew to Hong Kong. Here are some of the dishes we had over the session:
1. Crispy Eggplant S$10.00

This dish is recommended because it is simply addictive. The crispy eggplants are nicely caramelised.

2. Flower Clams S$16.00

The clams cooked in chicken broth and white wine.

3. Wood Roasted Pumpkin & Sweet Potato S$12.00

Soft pumpkin and potato chunks with garlic yogurt in which I thought it looks ordinary but taste good. The yoghurt sauce balances the sweetness of the sweet potato and also tastes of the pumpkin.

4. Red Snapper S$18.00

The pan-fried fish served with cauliflower puree and wild rice. I enjoyed the moist, tender snapper and the puree compliments the dish.

5. Pair of Pork Cheeks Char Siu Sliders S$20.00

It is served in mini-bite size burger with kimchi elements to give a twist of flavour. If only the char siew can be softer in texture, it would be better.

6. Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl S$16.00
Don Ho Social Kitchen Bar-Roasted Iberico Pork Jowl
My favourite dish of the night and I will be back for that. The pork jowl texture was tender and juicy and at the same time goes well with the egg yolk.

7. Desserts – S$10.00
Don Ho Social Kitchen Bar-Baklava
We ordered all 3 desserts on the menu- Baklava , Chocolate Pudding and Passion Fruit Marshmallow. Baklava is the interesting dessert among the rest. It has multi ingredients including pistachio crumbs, candied almonds, pashmak and Persian cotton candy on top.
Don Ho Social Kitchen Bar-Passionfruit Mashmallow
Passionfruit Mashmallow is the combination of citrus segments, lemon curd and shortbread crumbs.
Don Ho Social Kitchen Bar-chocolate pudding
And chocolate pudding is classic rendition dessert that you will never go wrong.

Don Ho Social Kitchen Bar-Cocktails
Apart from food & desserts, Don Ho also serves cocktails ranging from S$18.00 onwards. We tried their recommendations and my pick is the Yuzu Mule S$20.00.

In summary, Don Ho serving is in small plate and if you are someone who prefer big portion, I don’t think you will enjoy it. You will definitely go for second round after the meal. Their menu encouraged communal dining and it stated “3 dishes recommended per person.” Thus, if you like to have more choices and share with friends, you can count on Don Ho. The food here is more hits then misses and of course their services are commendable.
